Check with Your Instructor

Librarians can help you locate the right resources for your research, and they can also help you find the right style guide. But these are questions which you should check with your instructor first:

  • Which citation format (style manual) should I use?
  • Does this information in my research have to be cited?
  • When should I quote and when can I paraphrase or summarize?
  • How will I know if my paraphrase is too close to the original?
  • Is the citation entry correct?

You can find answers to many of these questions along with general citation help in the WSU Writing Center located in Sullivan room 306. The Writing Center also maintains an OWL (Online Writing Lab) where WSU students can submit their work online and receive feedback and support within 72 hours.
